Visual Perception: The Primal Sketch
When the eye opens and confronts a new scene elements from the exterior world are processed in several stages. In the first few moments hard edges and strait lines are distinguished. Then, after a few more moments, subtle curves, ellipses and circles are identified by the eye and the brain. Only later are texture, detail and other elements processed into the scene.
